Discovering the authenticity of Campania

Day 1 – Naples

Arrival at Naples airport or central train station and pick-up of your rental car. We recommend starting your visit in the iconic Piazza del Plebiscito, located in the heart of the historic center at the end of Via Toledo. Covering more than 25,000 m², it is the largest square in Naples and one of the most important in Italy.

Surrounded by a majestic colonnade, the square is flanked by the Prefecture Palace, Salerno Palace, the Royal Palace, and the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola.

Don’t miss the Royal Palace, with its elegant facade of volcanic stone, piperno, and terracotta, featuring eight statues of the most prominent rulers of Naples. Inside, you’ll find the monumental Grand Staircase—described by Montesquieu as “the most beautiful in Europe”—and over 30 richly decorated rooms, including the Court Theatre, the Throne Room, and the Royal Chapel. The tour also includes outdoor spaces such as the Honour Courtyard, Carriage Courtyard, Belvedere Courtyard, and Hanging Garden, with stunning views over the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

For the adventurous, we recommend visiting the Bourbon Tunnel, a labyrinth of underground passages used since the 19th century by the military, later as a wartime shelter and storage facility. The tour lasts about one hour and is accessible to all (60% wheelchair accessible).

Note: Not recommended for guests with claustrophobia or limited mobility.

Day 2 – Naples and Pompeii

Breakfast at the hotel. Begin the day with a visit to the historic center. We recommend the Monumental Complex of Santa Chiara, featuring a majestic Gothic basilica and its famous majolica-tiled cloister. Built in 1310 by King Robert of Anjou and Queen Sancia of Majorca, the complex was originally designed to house two convents—one for the Poor Clares and one for the Franciscan friars.

The cloister, redesigned in 1742 by architect D.A. Vaccaro, is known for its octagonal pillars covered in painted ceramics and benches depicting everyday life. The walls are decorated with Baroque frescoes and scenes from the Old Testament.

Don’t miss a visit to the Sansevero Chapel Museum, home to the Veiled Christ, a sculptural masterpiece by Giuseppe Sanmartino. The delicate marble veil covering Christ’s body has fascinated artists and visitors for centuries, including Antonio Canova.

Next, enjoy a Neapolitan pizza tasting, including ¼ margherita, ¼ vegetable, ¼ sausage and friarielli, and ¼ stuffed crust pizza. In 2017, the art of the Neapolitan pizzaiolo was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In the afternoon, we recommend visiting the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The earliest walls date back to the 7th century BC. Pompeii flourished under Roman rule, especially during the reigns of Emperors Augustus and Tiberius.

After the visit, continue to Salerno. Check-in at the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Mini Cruise to Positano and Amalfi

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure from the port of Salerno for a charming boat trip to Positano (approx. 70 min).

We recommend visiting the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, famous for its bright ceramic-tiled dome—a symbol of the town. Inside, you’ll find a 13th-century Byzantine icon of a Black Madonna with Child. Positano enchants with its pastel houses clinging to the cliffs, flower-covered terraces, narrow alleyways, and lemon-scented air.

Continue by boat to Amalfi (approx. 25 min). Enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant featuring fresh fish specialties.

After lunch, visit the majestic Cathedral of Saint Andrew, the city’s patron saint. The medieval bell tower and grand staircase are especially impressive. The interior reflects a blend of styles, including Baroque, Rococo, and gilded ceilings—evidence of centuries of restoration.

From the cathedral’s atrium, access the Cloister of Paradise, the ancient cemetery of Amalfi’s nobility, adorned with frescoes and Arab-inspired columns.

Return to Salerno by boat. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4 – Benevento

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Benevento, a city rich in history and legend.

Visit the Monumental Complex of Santa Sofia, a gem of Lombard art and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site includes the church, bell tower, former monastery, cloister, and a central fountain.

Enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant with a tasting of codfish dishes, a local culinary specialty.

After lunch, visit the Arch of Trajan, built between 114 and 117 AD to celebrate the inauguration of the Via Traiana.

Continue with a visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Episcopio, partially destroyed in 1943. Today, it preserves its facade, bell tower, and the crypt with ancient frescoes. The highlight is the Janua Major, a 12th-century bronze door featuring 72 sculpted panels.

Take a walk through the Triggio district, the city’s oldest quarter, home to Roman baths, the Arch of the Sacrament, and the Roman Theatre inaugurated under Emperor Hadrian.

End the tour at Port’Arsa, another of the city’s ancient gates. Before returning to the hotel, enjoy a tasting of sweets by the famous Strega Alberti confectionery. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 – Caserta and Departure

Breakfast at the hotel and departure for the magnificent Royal Palace of Caserta, a Baroque masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for Charles III of Bourbon, the palace dazzles visitors with its grandeur, refined interiors, and an expansive park with formal gardens, fountains, and cascading waterfalls.

Highlights of the visit include the Hall of Astrea, the Hall of Mars, and the Throne Room, featuring ornate stuccoes, frescoes, marble floors, and valuable sculptures.

Lunch in a local restaurant. Return to Naples, drop off the rental car, and end of services.

The ticket constitutes to all intents and purposes a valid admission ticket and must be shown directly at the entrance to the Sansevero Chapel, without the need to go to the ticket office.
