Program in summary

Benevento, unique in its kind and inimitable in its history; the symbol of the city is the Church of Santa Sofia, UNESCO heritage since 2011. Towards Caudina Valley, the village of Sant’Agata de’ Goti has been awarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, receiving the Orange Flag from the Touring Club, as well as European City of Wine in 2019. Continuing towards the territory of Irpinia, we will be charmed by the beauty of the Abbey of Goleto, one of the most important monumental complexes of Southern Italy. We will then admire the characteristic medieval village of Rocca San Felice, where in the square we will be able to linger in the shadow of the splendid “freedom lime tree“, planted by the French in 1799. Legend has it that in the area there are the gates of Hell, a magical place called Mephitis (a name that comes from the goddess of water, much venerated in the area, who was invoked for the fertility of the fields and for female fecundity). The Mephitis of Rocca San Felice is a small lake of sulphureous origin, mentioned by Virgil in the seventh canto of the Aeneid, which has been boiling since the dawn of time and which, thanks to the powerful force of its gases, can lead to eternal sleep. A unique place where nature wins and dominates over man giving emotions and unrepeatable sensations.
